Twilight on the boardwalk

The sun has set and the day is done. The fun and adventure at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk is winding down. The lights come on to try and hold back the darkness and keep the summer going for just another few minutes. The crowds are already thinning out, and the beach is all but deserted. Vacations are over. For the kids it's back to school, and the adults, back to work. In a few weeks the road sides stands along Route 1 will be selling pumpkins instead of fresh fruit. There is already a nip in the air.

I created this ghostly image by setting the camera on the night photography setting. most digital cameras have one. The camera fires the flash and then the shutter remains open for a moment longer to capture background ambient light. In this case the ambient light was the carousel and since it was moving it created the blurred effect.

These four clowns will have to wait till next weekend for someone to try and knock down their teeth.

The volleyball games are over and the beach is just about deserted. The nightlife is picking up across the way on the Santa Cruz pier.
